Royal Casino

Want to see money? I mean lots and lots of money? Just go to a casino and you will be shocked at how fast and how easy it is for gamers and bettors to lose and earn money.

I am not a fan of betting. Not even when my neighbors are all winning in hueteng, i never had the urge to try my luck. When PCSO raised the odds to a billion and i saw the long queue of those who wished to win, still it never crossed my mind to buy a ticket. Not only because i don't have any luck when it comes to raffle or betting, i also feel like i'm wasting money (although PCSO gives back to charity so  it might not be a waste of money after all.) But it can be if you will use your remaining money for betting when it's already allotted for something else.

Going back to casino, I don't know the story of those who frequent these establishment.  All i know is i have never seen  that type of spending or investing before. Coming from someone who has to work to survive, i don't see myself going back or even spend just a thousand bucks. I understand that there are people who are lucky and who keeps on winning but not all are. But who am i to judge, it's their money. Besides, if it's just once in a while and just to unwind or you don't have any money problems then, that ain't a problem at all.I am just worried about the politicians who always go to casinos because i'm sure it's public money they are spending there.
God forbid.

Why can't PABACA produce politicians?

PaBaCa or Paganao, Bacooc, Cayapa are three barangays of Lagangilang that are geographically nearer in San Juan than in Lagangilang proper.

According to Apo Gawalon Dacalan, Apo Paingan and Apo Busnag Daipan, wise old folks we spoke to back in the 90s, Bacooc was the very first barangay of Lagangilang. Some of the parcel of lands that is now ASIST was once owned by them. It is not clear how they gave up those lands and moved to a place we now call Bacooc. What we are certain though is that the great fire of Bacooc resulted in two more Barangays, Paganao and Cayapa.

These three barangays are different from any other barangays of Lagangilang. Although there are itnegs in Poblacion and Laang and also in Nagtipulan, they are Inlaud, while those in PaBaCa are Adasens. In fact, they share the same language with the taga Bai in Lagayan and the taga Kaganayan in Tineg among others.

Since they came from the same clan, it is expected that they are united. The truth is they are. In times of emergency, death, accidents, bad times, they are there for each other. In times of celebrations like fiesta, marriage or pakagon, christening or baptism,  even birthdays, they are also there for each other. Truly, you can say that they are one united clan.

But there is one thing that do not unite them, politics. Given the local history of politics in their respective barangays particularly Bacooc, we won't be talking about Barangay positions. We mean higher positions like Mayor or  Sanguniang Bayans. If they unite, it would be very easy for them to produce SBs but sadly, no, they can't or they wont. There are lots of brilliant and intelligent people from the area who are capable but are not given the chance to lead. Imagine the change it would bring them if they can have a Mayor or even an SB. But the question is why? Why can't they elect one from their own?
It's either they prefer to choose those who can give them financial assistance or they don't trust their fellow taga PaBaCa. Or they may be victims of the so called crab mentality, where you can never be a hero in your hometown. This is when people can not stand or bear seeing someone of their own kind to succeed and lead them. (Dakes nga apal)

They did have 3 SBs in the past, with Former SBs Adelaida Agcongay (also a former Mayor),  Banat Ban-o and the late Agapito Agcongay who became SB member when he was elected ABC president .Former Mayor Adelaida Agcongay is from Tammogong by birth.
Another taga Bacooc who produced notable Politicians is Magala Bautista whose offspring are Mayor Meynard and Usec Marco Bautista of San Juan.

In the past elections, former Major Ben Wacquisan of Paganao tried his luck but lost. And if a major can't win, how are the chances of the others?

This is not meant to insult the PaBaCa people. This is to wake them up. In this time of social media, where most have facebook, instagram, twitter, hopefully, you, the youth of PaBaCa start truly caring for your place. Not just by showcasing your beautiful people and landmarks but by producing public servants.
It has been said many times that the " kabataan ay ang pag-asa ng bayan", so do not just preach about it but lead by example.

Plastic will melt one day

Plastic. The reason why we have flood. Even if it' s just ambon, we always experience baha. That is because of the plastic basura that blocks drainages.

Now, plastic is not only about the wrapper that we throw that clogs our kanals and pollutes our beaches, rivers and kills our marine life. It is also about people who can't show you their real colors. I am the type of person who can't hide my emotions. If i am disgusted, if i am upset, if am happy, it shows. But i am also tolerant. I can tolerate all types of people, except for one. And these are plastic people.
I am glad that i am not pakialamera by nature, otherwise, andami na san
ang magkakaaway na kakilala ko. I practice what i preach. And that is to write when i am frustrated. I'd rather be tagged as bastos than be chummy to people and witness how they treat each other plastic-ally. (Yes, that's my word and whether it's right or wrong, it's my word). I just can't stand it.

But who am i to judge.  I am also a sinner but being plastic is not one of them. So, all i'm wishing is, may all plastic, things and people, melt one day.

Still Lebron

Nba 2018-2019 season officially starts now!
Nothing is permanent in the basketball world excepf for 23!
And so i can't help it, i'm now gonna cheer for the Lakers and will follow the Lake Show. Never in my wildest dreams have i thought i'm gonna be a Laker's fan but i am now.

People seem to NOT understand the word bandwagon.
Do i consider myself as bandwagon? No, because i follow an athlete, not a team. Some are asking, why can't i follow a team, i'l answer the question with a question, Am i from Cleveland or Miami that i should forever root for them?
Well, we can't please everybody. But my only wish is that, may we learn to respect who our fellow humans admire, whether it's a team, an athlete or an actor. We may not agree with them but it shouldn't be the reason for any misunderstanding.

So, Lebron, i followed you.

#SoLebron

Ps:
I've been a follower of Lebron since 2009 and there was no looking back.

Happiness

Being happy is something everybody craves. You may have all the things that you need but you may still feel that happiness is elusive. That's why if you find a hobby, a person, an event, a job, an artist or whatever it is that makes you happy, then grab it because happiness can't be bought, it can only be felt.

Right now, i'd say that i'm at my happiest. We all have our own ways of measuring happiness but happiness that comes from within and makes you glow, that is very rare and once you find it, then make sure that every moment count since nothing is permanent in this world. Make sure to create memories to aide you in times of sadness.
Happiness is a choice, whether you prefer to hold on to it or to let go.
It is also a gift, so make sure you treasure it since not all can be genuinely happy.

So, to those who are making me happy, thank you.

Angry? Upset? This is for u

"If you are very angry or upset, go write that person a venomous letter. Spew out every invective and expletive you can think of the letter. Then burn the letter."

Trust me, you'll feel better.
It's a lot better than washing your dirty laundry in public.

Let her go

Let Her Go
Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go
Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you'll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast
You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you'll understand why
Everything you touch surely dies
'Cause you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
Love comes slow and it goes so fast
Well you see her when you fall asleep
But never to touch and never to keep
'Cause you loved her too much and you dive too deep
'Cause you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go
Oh oh oh no
And you let her go
Oh oh oh no
And you let her go

Well, you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
'Cause you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go

Stuck in McArthur highway river

It's been six years since i swam in Balintawak during a strong Habagat. I was still in the period of adjustment before as i just arrived after living for more than a decade in HK.

I never experienced that kind of baha anymore. I told myself, it only happens once in a blue moon. I never thought that blue moons appear twice.
When i left our office in Monuz, it was already raining cats and dogs but no sign of flood at all.

When we arrived in BBB,  we got stuck in traffic and we helplessly watched as the water started to rise.

As i stared at the window of the aircon bus, i became more depressed. I guess it's really true that one can find so many pains when it rains. I was already feeling so low and my tears started to fall. The man sitting beside me looked at me and he voiced out his concern. "Nabaha din ba bahay nyo"? I didn't really wanna talk so i said "hindi po" and turned to my CP then d window. An unexplainable sadness engulfed me and at that very moment, i wanted to just cry my heart out.

Then i saw groups of people standing in the middle of the road, oblivious to the rain and flood around them. Cars and motorcycles got stuck. A teener even carried his bike as it was almost waist high already. It's as if i was watching a movie.

After another hour, the bus  finally moved and i finally reached my destination.

As i got off the bus, i felt better and let the falling rain calm me and i am pleased that there is no baha in our place.

And as i walked towards our house, i told myself, everything will be OK, just like McArthur highway, which surely will also go back to normal after the rain.

Abra, my Abra

Abra, my Abra

Who hasn't heard of Abra, arguably the most violence-prone province in our country every election period? In the past decade, in fact, Abra has dethroned Mindanao with the most number of election-related violence.
But don't get me wrong. I am not trying to put Abra in a bad light because after all, it is where I come from. I am just bothered and saddened that my beloved hometown has become what it is now.
During my high school and college years, whenever friends and acquaintances would ask me which province I come from, I would proudly say "Abra" and they in turn would say, "Saan `yon?"
My answer: "Doon sa may Ilocos Sur." To which, many would invariably say, "Ahhhh, Ilocos pala."
Often I would get irritated when someone would insist that the capital of Abra is Benguet and not Bangued. Many Filipinos, it seems, never heard of my province.
Fast forward to the new millennium. The entire Philippines now seems to know more about Abra than the average Abrenio, thanks to the extensive coverage of the volatile political situation in our province.
In a place like Abra where killings have become a normal occurrence come election time, many of us residents have sadly come to accept this as a fact of life. Sure, many residents will talk and sympathize with the victims, but not much is done, and the outrage is hardly felt anymore. Meantime, the dead becomes a mere statistic in the long list of unresolved killings in this place.
And life goes on.
But visit Abra during calmer times and you will notice how different the images are from what is shown on TV. Many beautiful houses stand proudly in the province, thanks to Abrenios who have scattered all over the world to improve their lot back home.
It could thus be assumed that the chaos is all election-related, and is not due to us Abrenios being naturally war-freak.
Unfortunately, elections are held every three years, so the calm is short-lived.

Most Barangays in the province are small and almost all the residents are related. Everyone is somebody's cousin.
But politics knows no filial ties. Most of those who run for political posts in the barangay elections are from a single clan, but this does not stop them from engaging in bitter tiffs. Many stop talking to each other once they find themselves on opposite sides of the political fence.

Still, I wonder why people would fight bitterly over politics. Is it the power that is perceived to come with the title of barangay captain, or the internal revenue allotment which could run into millions of pesos,or the perks of being close to the Mayor or maybe the provincial leaders?

To answer this question, I first had to look at why we Abrenios have been reduced to fighting over virtual political scraps.
I learned that Abra was once the Shangri-la of the Tinguians or the Itnegs. People here were brave and courageous, despite being constantly harassed by headhunters from Kalinga. The Tinguians then were peaceful people, and became tough only because of the need to protect themselves from enemies.
Then came the Ilocanos. These people from Ilocos were also hardy people, veterans of revolutions and skirmishes against Spain. They were people who built their dreams of fortune in the new land which is now Abra. To be able to move upstream, they only relied on their guts. They were fearless people who bonded together in the new communities that they built.
From the intermarriages between these two courageous and hardworking people came the Abrenios of today.
Though we come from the same stock, we differ in class. Some of us come from the working class, those who want to make a difference and help bring change to our province. The others are simply dependent on politicians and they survive by harassing the weaker members of our community. They become minions and sadly, all the people around them become minions too. It doesn't really matter if they live in the province or they live abroad. So, it becomes a choice.
Nobody knows what the future holds but we continue to wish that our once proud and mighty breed could someday make our province a better place to live in.

Priest assails people behind Pinoy smut video hit in HK

The Filipino chaplain of the Catholic Church in Hong Kong has angrily denounced the people behind the distribution of the pornographic "Mare, Pare" video that continues to sell like hotcakes in the community.

Father Emil Lim's comments came as a second smut VCD featuring two other Filipino couples began to change hands at the underground markets in Central and in other places in HK where Filipinos tend to congregate.

Fr. Emil said people should not buy the video, but should inform the police about those who sell it.

"If you know anybody who sells it, by all means, report them to the police," Fr. Lim emphatically said. He then asked, "Alam ba ng mga pulis na may nagbebenta niyan sa Worldwide (Plaza in Central, where the VCD is supposed to have been sold first)?"

He also said that he was disturbed by the interest shown by Filipinos in the VCD, which purports to show two OFWs in a clandestine sex act. The woman is said to be working as a domestic helper in Hong Kong, while the man--supposedly her "kumpadre"--is an OFW in Saudi Arabia.

"We don't even know if it's (the VCD) really genuine _ na OFW nga yung babae doon. But OFW or not, it is still pornography...it is still illegal and immoral. At kung totoong OFW yung babae, the more na di dapat panoorin ng kapwa niya OFW yon."

He also has harsh words for those who claim they watched the VCD because they got curious about the "pare-mare" yarn woven around it.

"Don't use curiosity as an excuse. Those who watched it should go to confession and if you have the tape (VCD), I urge you to break it. Don't throw it away, break it!"

Amid Fr. Lim's warning, the controversial VCD continues to find its way, albeit surreptitiously, to many OFWs in Hong Kong. Parts 1 and 2 are already being sold together at $20 each, and there is talk now that part three of the previously believed reality VCD will also find its way soon in the illicit market.

But unlike the equally controversial sexploits of fallen Cantopop singer-actor Edison Chen which were captured on camera and posted without permission on the internet, the "Pare-Mare" VCD does not seem to provoke much outrage within the community.

On the contrary, many Filipinos seem to take interest in the VCD, initially because the story about the two supposed OFWs in the video having clandestine sex became more interesting in the telling.

Some of those who have watched it now seem certain that they know the "mare" in the video--she's from the north, east, west and south of the Philippines. However, someone has yet to give her a name, and where in HK she can be found. In short, there is as yet no proof that she is indeed, an OFW, much less an OFW from Hong Kong.

Filipino artist Tito Castante shares his views on why the VCD has become a hit in the community, even after many people have dismissed it as nothing but an artless recording of repeated sexual acts by two porn actors.

"Food and sex are two of the things that interests us. You see this (even) in advertisements---they always use sex to sell products like a woman's pouting lips that suggests seduction. Besides, this gave us a rare opportunity to talk about sex, kasi nga di ba we are known to be conservative and talking about sex is still considered taboo? It's also human nature na you dont want other people to know na nahuhuli ka sa balita, so talk about it and add details para masabing you know something they don't."

A Filipino journalist who did not want to be named, has his own take on the issue: "Of course Filipinos become interested because it's out of the ordinary. Their sense of propriety is shaken but at the same time, they also want to see the lurid details".

Others who have seen the video are more concerned about whether or not the video does show a real-life "magkumpare" having sex on the sly. People like "Tiyo Paeng," a self confessed adult movie enthusiast who boasts of having more than a thousand titles of adult or blue movies from 1930s to present insists that it is an authentic reality show, and that the woman is an OFW from HK. "Pansinin mo yong kwarto, servants quarter yon, may mga nakasampay pang underwear at may eksena doon kung saan sinabi ng babae ang. `wag mo papakita sa mga kasamahan mo ito ha, pare?'"

advertisement
But this was immediately discounted by computer specialist Rommel D, who said he had seen the video two years ago on jologs.com, a branch of iyo.tube .com, a Filipino adult version of youtube that was shut down a month ago because of its content.

"I am not saying that I am 100 % sure but with my knowledge as a technician, this is a very big scam. It is convincing because such situations really happen and porno materials like that are so common now, nagkalat nga sa Quiapo eh."

He said that small details like the the toilet being bigger than the room is already a sign that it was not shot in HK.

"Kahit saang motel ka magpunta dito, wala kang makikitang cr (comfort room, or toilet) na mas malaki kesa sa kwarto. Pansinin mo din iyong toilet--may gripo at shower dun na panghugas--kahit saang toilet dito walang ganun. Isa pa, kung lalakasan mo ang volume at gagamit ka ng earphone, mapapansin mong maingay sa background at may dispatcher na nagtatawag ng pasahero kaya alam ko na sa Pinas gawa yon".

Further, he said: "HK is a very small place, bakit walang makapagsabi kung sino siya? At isa pa, nung di pa sila nagsesex, `Babes' ang tawag ng babae dun sa lalake. Gumagawa lang sila ng sarili nilang pelikula at iniisip nilang porno actors sila."

Another observer, a psychologist turned businessman, also says the video is "a porno film, and nothing more."

He disputed the stories first circulated that the video was shot either in a boarding house or a maid's room here.

"It was filmed in a week or two--notice how the bed sheet had been changed many times. Also, yung sahig, linoleum at yung kama, sa Pilipinas mo lang makikita. May bathtub din. And lastly, the way they kiss is not normal for a regular couple; tanging mga porn artists lang ang gagawa niyan."

The psychologist also has some nasty words for those who watched, and claimed to have been nauseated by the video.

"If they were really scandalized, then why did they watch it, tapos sasabihin nila nakakadiri, nakakasuka. Bakit, ano ba ang inaasahan nilang makita, cartoons? Truth is, aminin man natin o hindi, we love scandal and this kind of scandal makes us awake and sometimes what we wish for can be fulfilled sa mga scandals na ganito," said the psychologist.

"Kasi, suddenly you have an excuse for watching porno, e before parang pag nalaman ng iba na nanood ka ng bold nakakahiya kaya ngayon, nakakapanood na sila freely. So if they really don't like it, they should stop watching it kasi lumabas na mga ipokrito sila at mas nakakahiya iyon," the psychologist added.

Genuine or not, the issue for other religious leaders in the community is why Filipinos continue to buy the pornographic video.

For Pastor Ben Gabatino of the Redeemed Church of Christ, the attention people give to the issue is a reflection of their characters.

"People tend to talk about others to divert attention from themselves. Baka kasi mamaya mas masahol pa yong ginagawa nila kaya yong bulok ng iba ang kanilang nilalabas, Isa pa, it is considered adultery to watch bold films. If people don't really want it, then why do they buy? At kung totoo man yon, anong pakialam natin?"

"I think ang pag-record ng sexual act ay di masama (in itself) kung mag-asawa kasi through that they may be able to enhance that part of their life. Still, it is not advisable kasi what if makita ng anak mo, di wala ka nang mukhang ihaharap sa kanya?

Fr. Joey Mandia also said that watching the VCD in question or any porno movies is considered adultery. Also, he says that anyone who records sexual acts might be a "bit sick" in the head.

Still, if it was indeed true that the video was between two magkumpares who are both married to other people, he said that it was "very unfortunate" that it happened"and it is even more unfortunate na tinatangkilik ng mga kababayan natin.

Questions

In a dream it would seem
I went to those who close the open door
Turning the key I sat and spoke to those
Inside of me
They answered my questions with questions
And pointed me into the night
Where the moon was a star-painted dancer
And the world was just a spectrum of light
They reached to my centre of reason
And pulled on the touchstone that's there
The shock of that light has me reeling
And I fell into the depths of despair
They answered my questions with questions
And set me to stand on the brink
Where the sun and the moon were as brothers
And all that was left was to think
They answered my questions with questions
And pointed me into the night
The power that bore me had left me alone
To figure out which way was right

Love and madness

I am not the type of person who becomes happy with the misfortune of others. If others think otherwise, i look back and think hard why they think that way. If i did something wrong then i am deeply sorry but if i didn't, it's still ok. I still understand because i know from experience that people who are going thru a lot become sensitive.
I just hope that people who matter to me will see the real me.

Proud of the Cleaner

Thirteen years ago, i met Bruce  Aitken or Brother Bruce to his radio followers and friends. That time, i was a contributor for the Sun Newspaper and since i just moved from Pinoy Abroad, i was thinking of writing something that will make my debut article something worth reading.
I tried to get inspiration from the radio and was surprised to learn about a program hosted by an American-Irish that is dedicated to Filipinos, mostly OFWs and inmates.

I tried to contact him and the rest they say is history.
I got to feature him in the Sun twice and we became very good friends.

When i left HK, we occasionally communicate through email but in the past couple of years, we lost contact.

While browsing the net earlier this week,  I found out that he recently launched a book called
The Cleaner, about a money launderer turned Mr Clean.

Excerpt from the Book:
"You are looking at the Meyer Lansky of money laundering " All attending the court gasped out loud, and with malice aforethought, stared at me as if I had just landed from outer space.
From humble beginnings in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, Bruce Aitken was destined to be a baseball player until fate stepped in, in the form of a knee injury, and forever changed the course of his life.
What started innocently enough, answering an ad in the newspaper, turned into a globe-trotting lifestyle of moving money - huge sums of money - for some of the world's most notorious and somewhat shady characters. From the jungles of Viet Nam to the money capitals of the world, Bruce moved in circles that would unquestioningly hand over millions of dollars to him on a handshake, to be deposited into Swiss Bank accounts.
It all started to crash via an event in Reno Nevada, and nearly cost Bruce the rest of his life in prison.

So for those who are wondering why he has a soft spot for prisoners, that prison experience made him more compassionate towards those who are in jail and the program Hour of love slowly attracted OFWs as well. Some skeptics tried to put him down but after more than a decade of serving the church, he was able to prove that he is the real thing.

Brother Bruce's story is proof that no matter how bad a person is, He can change his ways as long as he is determined.

To You Brother,

I am very proud of what you have accomplished. I have seen how you sacrificed for the Hour of Love.

I will always pray for your success since you are touching people without you realizing how big the impact is and i am always grateful for the friendship and all the advices you have given me.

Always looking forward to seeing you.

For my BEST friend..

Staring at the road, i felt this deep sadness in my heart.
An emptiness that only you can fill.
But what can i do as we are miles apart.
Will just have to wait until i heal.

I am so lost and i don't know who to turn to.
I want to hold you but you are like  a shadow.
I know you are there but i can't hold you.
So i'm just left with memories of u

And as sorrow grips me,
I have to show the world that i am ok, u see.
So while my soul is crying,
I have to let them see me smiling.

But as i wait for that day again,
When i can hold mo chuisle,
Then i'l just weep and hope that that day would be here soon.

Yeah, Bob Marley

Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you've never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it's like being young again. Colors seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn't exist at all. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there's a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible."

If i had a choice...

If i have a time machine , i will go back and correct all those mistakes of my youth....

But, on second thought, if i go back and correct them, then it won't really be me anymore.  Since what i am now is the result of what i did back then.
If i go back, i may not be as strong because i wouldn't experience rough roads. I may not be as compassionate because i won't know the feeling of having nothing.
I wouldn't be a good parent if it was not for my parents' failures.
I wouldn't be as may pakialam to what's going on in my country cause i wouldn't have experienced being an OFW and a writer.
I wouldn't know how to love truly if i did not experience heartache.

So, no matter how strong the urge is and even if i would be given the chance to go back and alter the course of my future, i will not because my past made me what and who i am today. And i am proud of my choice.

Thinking out loud

Do u ever lay in bed thinking how NOT ok you are?
And if that's the case, who do u run to?
Because, there will always be times when we feel alone and helpless.

And in times like these, i find the comfort of my friend, the window of my soul,  My blog.

Finding Baguio

We went on a 24-hour trip to Baguio to attend to some business.

That 24 hour trip changed my life. Yes, it's a very life changing trip. I can't find words to fully express how i truly feel but
I learned to appreciate life more.

I saw the beauty of haunted places like the Hyatt ruins and the Diplomat Hotel. I was amazed at the place itself. The cold weather makes it a perfect setting for an unforgettable date.
Ah, Baguio, i can't help myself but fall in love with you...
.

Getting to know the call center industry

Many of us always hear the words call center but only those who belong to this industry truly understand what it really is.
People from outside tend to stereotype or generalize the people working in this Industry. They are accused of being promiscous, no desire to really find a good job and lasting career, alcholics, drug addicts and what not.

One of the big bosses in a well known BPO company called that as "case to case basis". He said,"reputation is what others think of you, character is what you are made of, but he did not deny that these things really happen, probably because, "majority of the workers are young and still immature, add that to the high salary they are getting so they spend like there is no tomorrow"
But he didn't agree with the drug addicts since most companies do an annual physical exam that includes drug testing.

But what is a call center, really. The BPO or call center is the business of bringing the customer service of a brand or company to third world country like the Philippines. They pay a lot cheaper compared if they operate at home. Since we Filipinos adapt easily, we became favorites for big companies worldwide.
To become agents, trainees are taught in a classroom like environment by their company. The company are the ones bidding for the clients, the clients will give them the product and the money then the company will hire agents, team leaders, business and operation managers. They will also hire trainers to teach the agents. Agents are the ones taking in calls. Clients are also called accounts.
Since most accounts are located overseas, agents are expected not only to be knowlegeable in english and computer but to be able to adapt to the time difference as well. That's why call center people eat lunch at midnight and say goodnight in the morning.
There are also centers that cater to local services like maynilad, meralco, globe , smart but the offer is a lot lower that their international counterpart. But they have normal working hours unlike those in the International accounts.

Despite the high salary that is offered to call center agents, salary ranges from P15-35k a month plus incentives, depending on the company and the account, many can't stand the pressure that comes with job. It is a known fact that Americans love to test an agent's patience. Some can't adjust to the time difference. Most of the high paying companies are located in BGC, so people have second thoughts applying there due to traffic. Some become unhappy being stuck in agent position that they lose their drive. That's when they resign then apply again, making them hoppers.
Since attrition is high, it's hard for agents to apply for a loan. Salary wise, it is like working overseas sans the tax.

With all that being said , a lot more still try their luck and stay. Not all college graduates can guarantee that they will get hired. Interviewers don't only judge communication skills, they also observe the behavior of the applicants. But once you become part of the industry, you will also get benefits you never thought you'll get. In case of sickness, they are entitled to a premium of P150-300k per sickness. Beneficiaries can be given the same package, depending on your length of stay.

The best thing in the industry is that there is no discrimination. Old, young, professionals, undergraduates, people with disability, gay, black and white all work together without fear of being judged.

Most of the people working in the industry started as agents. While a few have managed to climb the ladder of success, majority got stuck in agent level. That's why people are saying that the career growth is really so slow.

While it is not the best job, there is no doubt that the BPO industry opened lots of opportunities for us especially these times of unemployment. Apart from that, OFWs can now have the option to go home and work in the Philippines and would be able to watch them grow.
And yes, very few manage to climb the ladder of success but like what one of those who did, said " If one's goal is to earn money for the daily, then definitely, he will find no career opportunity. It's a keeper, i have some friends as living proof. "
Some are born to talk and some prefer to work alone, these will determine if u belong or you don't. Just like any job, as long as you are happy, then stay but if you don't find fulfillment, then find the one your heart desires.
